With an investment of several years and billions of dollars, Microsoft are announcing the third phase of their long-term relationship with OpenAI to hasten the development of AI and ensure that its advantages are widely available to all people.

Following their prior investments in 2019 and 2021, they have this agreement. It expands the current partnership in AI supercomputing and research and gives them the freedom to independently market the ensuing cutting-edge AI solutions.

Scalable supercomputing – Microsoft will enhance its investments in the development and deployment of specialised supercomputing platforms to expedite Open AI’s innovative independent AI research. We will also continue to expand Azure’s superior AI infrastructure to assist clients in developing and deploying AI applications on a global scale.

New AI-powered experiences – Microsoft will incorporate Open AI models into our consumer and enterprise products, as well as launch new categories of digital experiences based on Open AI technology. This includes Microsoft’s Azure Open AI Service, which enables developers to create cutting-edge AI applications by providing direct access to Open AI models, which are underpinned by Azure’s trusted, enterprise-grade capabilities and AI-optimized infrastructure and tools.

Dedicated cloud provider – Azure will power all Open AI workloads spanning research, products, and API services as the exclusive cloud provider

Microsoft has made a commitment to transforming Azure into a global supercomputer for artificial intelligence (AI) since 2016. Azure is the cornerstone of their strategy to democratise AI as a platform. Microsoft and Open AI pioneered cloud supercomputing technologies through the original investment and partnership, announcing the first top-5 supercomputer in 2020 and subsequently building a number of AI supercomputing systems on a vast scale. With the help of this infrastructure, Open AI was able to develop its ground-breaking models, which are currently being utilised to power category-defining AI products like GitHub Copilot, DALLE 2, and ChatGPT in Azure.

These technological advancements have attracted people’s attention and exposed large-scale AI as a potent, all-purpose technology platform that, in our opinion, will have a revolutionary effect comparable to that of the personal computer, the internet, mobile devices, and the cloud.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has confirmed that the tech giant plans to use OpenAI, the start-up behind viral text generator Chat GPT, to build AI tools into every Microsoft product..

Exciting stuff indeed, we are already exploring the positive effects this will have for our customers and internal users alike, watch this space!
